Menlo fell by a margin of 12-6 on Wednesday against the Saint Ignatius Wildcats. This highly anticipated senior day matchup was very disappointing for Menlo, as they were hoping to pull off an underdog upset after Saint Ignatius fell to Bellarmine, whom Menlo beat.

Soon after the first face off, Saint Ignatius quickly took the lead, scoring three goals. “It’s tough to recover when they score the first 3 goals right away, it’s hard to overcome that momentum that gets built up” junior Conor McCusker noted. The Knights were able to get one goal after the early jump from SI, making the score at the end of the first quarter 4-1. By halftime, the score was 7-3, and the game ended with a score of 12-6.

Whether it was nerves due to the big game or just an off-day, the Knights felt as though they underperformed and were disappointed with the result. “Our defense didn’t communicate well enough, we couldn’t double team” senior captain Brody LaPorte said.

The Knights are looking forward to the WCAL playoffs where they may have a chance to have some redemption against Saint Ignatius or Sacred Heart, both of whom they lost to earlier in the season.
