The app of the week is 1010!, a new strategic game similar to the beloved classic Tetris. Since hitting the App Store on September 25th, 2014, the game has continued to gain attention amongst the limited free games that are available. Currently, this app stands in the Top 60 free applications, but has been moving rapidly up and down that list over the recent weeks.
1010! is a puzzle game that focuses on placing shaped blocks on a 10 by 10 grid. Aligning 10 blocks in a row or a column will result in those blocks disappearing, allowing more room to place more shaped blocks. Part of the strategy is to work with the limited information you have when fitting blocks in the grid, because you are only able to view three shapes at a time. Try to keep going and destroying blocks before you run out of options and have to start over. The game is perfect to play in a non-stressful break, due to no time limit. Mix up the colors of the shapes, by playing with either daytime, bright colors, or dark, nighttime colors.
Senior Melissa Demma believes this game is the perfect game for the Menlo student looking for a break in their day. “It’s a more challenging version of Tetris, but with an addictive twist,” Demma said, “It’s the perfect game for keeping the brain moving when you just need to chill.”
Today, the App Store features many paid games in the top 50 applications available, while it is somewhat difficult to find a truly fun and free game. 1010! offers not only a catchy and cheap game to play in free time, but also a way to keep your brain active throughout the day. Check out this game today, and show your friends your true stragetic ability!
