It has been covered in the San Jose Mercury News, and has earned recognition from Hudl as this week’s fourth-best high school football play in the country. Junior Jack McNally’s one-handed interception in stride against Half Moon Bay on Friday was nothing short of spectacular.
“He simply made one of the greatest catches I’ve ever seen,” senior center Charlie Pinkus said. Out of nowhere he stuck his hand up at the last second and somehow brought down a bullet pass. It is hard to describe in words, you had to see it to believe it.”
“It was fourth down late in the game and I thought we just needed to make sure they didn’t convert,” McNally said. “My man was running an out and I went to cover him but saw the quarterback throw the ball, but it was to another guy and behind me. So I just reacted at the last second and luckily came down with it.”
The catch itself was not only reminiscent of New York Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr.’s fantastic catch last season, but it also came at a pivotal point in the game. The Knights were down 15-13 in the fourth quarter, and the interception combined with the 41-yard return McNally had to Half Moon Bay’s 29-yard line sparked a 23-yard touchdown pass from Mackenzie Morehead to Jared Lucian that gave Menlo the lead. Menlo fell short in the last minute of the game, but McNally’s highlight play stands out nonetheless.
