On Oct. 28, the Menlo Knights captured both its first league title since 2006, after a 45-35 win against the Woodside Wildcats. This victory gave Menlo a league record of 4-1, which grants them title of co-league champions, along with Half Moon Bay. The Knights now have an overall record of 8-1, and their final game of the season is on Nov. 4, in the Valparaiso Bowl against Sacred Heart.
Seniors Hayden Pegley and EvanKing were an indomitable force, completing 14 passes for 244 yards and two touchdowns. Pegley, the second year quarterback, completed 24 out of 36 passes for 394 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions in the game at Woodside High School. Furthermore, Israelski had an impressive burst of success when he caught two touchdowns in the span of two minutes to grant Menlo a halftime lead.
Although the Knight’s offense displayed a dominant performance, the team’s defense also deserves praise. Junior defenders J.H. Tevis and Baily Deeter have been consistent throughout the season when it comes to shutting down opposing teams, and they definitely stepped up on Friday’s game. Tevis had 12 tackles and two sacks, and Deeter had 11 tackles and an interception, which both proved to be major players in this week’s success.
After conquering this co-league title, Menlo is confident in defeating SHP in next week’s Valpo Bowl.
