Girls Lacrosse Falls to Mitty on Senior Day
May 7, 2022
On April 29, the varsity girls lacrosse team lost 9-4 against Archbishop Mitty on senior day. Despite a loss to Mitty earlier in the season, the team tried to ride their senior day energy to a victory but ultimately came up short.
The game was close at halftime, with Mitty up 3-1. After the break, Menlo scored a quick goal, but Mitty responded by scoring four unanswered goals.
Going into the next game, head coach Ryan Sage hoped the team would maintain focus during the entire game to eliminate the opposing team’s runs. “I thought we played [well] for the majority of the game, but it was our lapses that Mitty was able to take advantage of and just go on a couple of runs that we weren’t able to come back from,” Sage said.
Despite the loss, the game was a memorable experience for the six seniors, all of whom played a pivotal role. “All six started every game they played in this year,” Sage said. “They kind of set the tone all year. How they played was generally how the team was going to play.”
“We just wanted to go out and have fun,” senior attacker Claire Raney said. “This [was] our last game at home, so we just wanted to enjoy playing with each other one last time here.”
“I think all of the seniors have been great role models, and they do a great job rallying [us] both on and off the field,” junior attacker Madison Vitro said. Next season, Vitro hopes to maintain the team spirit and enjoyable atmosphere that the seniors brought.
