The Menlo varsity football team added another win under their belt in a lively 38-28 battle against Capuchino High School. Senior Jack Enright was a key player for the team, scoring two touchdowns with a total of 115 receiving yards.
In the first quarter, junior quarterback Jack Freehill started off the scoring with an impressive rushing touchdown followed by a converted kick by junior Dylan O’Malley to make the score 7-7.
The Knights gained momentum in the second quarter. Senior Jamie Forese had a pick-6 making the score 21-7. Enright added to the scoreboard by receiving a 65-yard pass. At that moment, he had doubts about the possibility of scoring. “When I caught the ball, I didn’t think I was going to score, […] but I ended up bouncing right off [my defender] and rolling into the end zone. There is no better feeling than that,” Enright said.
In the fourth quarter, along with another rushing touchdown by Freehill, O’Malley had an impressive field goal in the fourth quarter to further distance Menlo from Capuchino.
Senior Tyler Fernandez who had a tackle for loss in the first quarter described the game as electric. “Tensions were high. […] We had been dominating for the past few games, and we knew we would continue that today,” Fernandez said. This was Menlo’s fourth win of the season, and they have one more game before official league play begins against Miramonte High School on Saturday, Sept. 28.
