Menlo’s varsity girls soccer team beat Sacred Heart Prep 2-0 at home on Friday, Jan. 17. In front of an enthusiastic Valpo rivalry crowd at Wunderlich Field, the teams were tied 0-0 after the first half. To start the second half, Menlo’s offense came together gaining multiple shots on goal. Senior Angelica Chou finally broke the tie in the 60th minute with a finish off a solo breakaway. Maintaining their persistent attack, Menlo added another goal from senior Roya Rezaee on a half-volley assisted by junior Josie Lee in the 76th minute to seal the game.
Chou attributed the big win to the team’s mentality. “Our competitiveness was a big factor because it is our biggest rivalry game. We came into the game knowing we had to win and that there’s gonna be a lot of people watching. I think that part of the mental game helped us physically win and play hard,” Chou said.
