Senior Tara Saha starred as Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors, directed by drama teacher Steven Minning, which ran Nov. 1 through Nov. 3. Saha is Artist of the Week due to her resiliency with the musical. Saha suffered laryngitis the week of the show, and performed in all four performances in spite of it. “Coming into the show with laryngitis, I was extremely worried about completing the run and even performing at all. The entire cast and crew was so supportive, and thankfully everything worked out by showtime,” Saha said.
Saha’s character, Audrey, is a soft-spoken girl trapped in urban Skid Row, a rough part of town. “Audrey was a pretty complex character because even though she’s quite ditzy and a bit of a floozy, she’s had to deal with a lot, including coming from a broken home and put up with her abusive boyfriend, and all she wants to do is escape from her conditions,” Saha said. Her experience with the musical has been nothing but positive. “The cast of Little Shop of Horrors was really tightly knit because we had so few people, so I loved getting to know all the newcomers to the drama department and all the freshmen that joined the show. Everyone is so supportive of each other,” Saha said.
The cast spent numerous hours together, through daily rehearsals, and hours of behind the scene preparation. “[Minning] did such a fabulous job of running a professional production, and giving us top-of-the-line props, sets, and costumes. He was able to make sure that we were organized and on track for show time, while ensuring that we had a good time,” Saha said.
Saha not only has been in this musical, but every Menlo musical during her four years here. In addition to that, Saha has been singing since “right after [she] started talking. It’s a big part of [her] identity.” Saha hopes to keep up with her acting and singing career in college as she has a strong love for the pair.
