This past Friday, May 16, the tenth annual Menlo Film Festival took place. Students from the introduction to moviemaking and the advanced moviemaking classes have been working all year to produce work to showcase at the festival. “We show the best work from the year, and it’s cool for the students to be able to see their work on the big screen,” moviemaking teacher Tripp Robbins said.
Approximately 90 people gathered in Martin to enjoy free candy and a glimpse into what students have been working on. “It was really cool to see all the ideas that Menlo students think of because they’re all so different,” freshmen moviemaking student Chloe Ebrahimian said. The work featured was created by Colin Johnson, Alex Grossman, Lucy Heneghan, Chloe Ebrahimian, Jessie Guthrie, Oliver Mancebo, Josh Lauder, Noah Listgarten, Maddy Frappier, Morgan Dressel, Shannon Shih, Zack Kaplan, Aaron Lee, Ryan Fischbach, Zack Hurwitz, Jasmyn Alviter, Maya Varma, Ben Zdasiuk, Nikhil Singhal. “Everything looked really good up on the big screen and I was really proud of my work,” sophomore Jessie Guthrie said.
Moviemaking has always been really important to Robbins, making this festival a key part of his year. “Moviemaking is an increasingly important skill these days where learning the language of film and video comes in handy,” Robbins said. This festival was a success and represented a fairwell to graduating seniors Ben Taft, Colin Johnson, and Alex Grossman.
