After more than a decade in Menlo’s Drama Department, of dedicated service at Menlo, Theatre Production Technical Director and Page to Spieker Stage teacher Andy Hayes has retired from his role in the middle of the school year.
During his time at Menlo, Hayes helped bring the Spieker Center to life, launched the Page to Spieker Stage class and contributed behind the scenes to support Menlo arts performances.
“Andy was an integral part of the production team and built strong, positive relationships across the community,” Creative Arts Director Katherine Palmer said. “We are grateful for his many contributions and the impact he has had on our students and productions over the years.”
The Creative Arts department is working to fill Hayes’s role. New Upper School Drama Director and teacher Mark Schneider will step in to lead the second semester of Hayes’s Page to Spieker Stage class. “This will give him an opportunity to get to know more students, which will be great for them and for him,” Upper School Director John Schafer said.
Menlo will not be hiring anyone new to replace Hayes this year. Palmer said that the Creative Arts team will draw on a trusted group of designers and collaborators in Hayes’s departure who have worked with the school in the past.
Hayes did not respond to an immediate request for comment.
