Saturday May 17, Menlo juniors and seniors gathered at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View to celebrate a Great Gatsby themed prom. The museum was bedecked with 1920s inspired gold and black colors. The students came for a night of dinner and dancing from 7pm until 11pm.
Many students were somewhat miffed by the choice of the venue, but those worries were quickly relieved when the students walked into the room fit for Gatsby himself. “We were skeptical of the venue, but I think we pulled it off,” junior Rebecca Shoch said, a member of the decoration committee. Some juniors part of the prom committee that led the planning of prom, set up earlier that day. “I thought it was super fun to see all your friends dressed up and to spend the night dancing and taking pictures with them,” junior Kenzie Mayer said. Mayer was also a part of the decoration committee with Shoch.
Several parents also were key to the success of the prom. “It seemed like it was a great success. I thought the theme was really fun,” Lisa Hammond said, who is the junior team parent and was largely responsible for the planning of prom. “It was a beautiful venue and I have only heard positive feedback,” Hammond said.
It is a tradition for the juniors to plan the prom and this year they succeeded in throwing a party that truly encapsulated the roaring 20’s.
