This year, the annual freshmen overnight took place from Sept. 19 to Sept. 20. The night featured a bouncy house, a dance, a movie, and numerous carnival games. For many, the highlight of the night was the carnival games. “My favorite game was the high striker,” freshman Laikh Tewari said. Although this section of the night received positive feedback, the latter part of the night did not. Because of technical Mean Girls,” in Martin Hall. The grade had to move to a different location in order to watch the movie, a hassle for many. “I did not like the movie because the commons was really uncomfortable and I wish it was actually one of the movies we chose,” freshman Sylvia Chen said.
The dance also garnered mixed reactions. Even though the dance is just for the freshman class, hoping to exclude the awkwardness involved with bringing in the entire upper school, some still didn’t enjoy the dance as much as others. However, students seemed to enjoy aspects of that event. “The dance was quite hectic but overall very fun,” freshman Sophie Siminoff said. Others had differing opinions. “I did feel like the dance was too loud and too bright,” Chen said.
Regardless of the reactions, students felt that they bonded as a grade. “This was the first time that it was just the entire freshmen class […] and I felt that this overnight did a good job on connecting us,” Chen said. Freshmen Dean Margaret Ramsey, agrees. “Just watching the class […] really get to know each other and hang out when nobody else is around […is] really cool,” Ramsey said. The annual freshmen overnight proved to be a successful event because of the fun night it provided and the positive feedback it received.
