Menlo’s varsity volleyball team was swept 3-0 by rival Menlo-Atherton High School on Tuesday, Sept. 10. The Knights struggled to match the Bears’ intensity from the start, losing the first set 25-18, and couldn’t find a rhythm causing them to drop the second and third sets 25-18 and 25-16, respectively.
“Overall I think M-A is a much more experienced team with a lot of upperclassmen who have been playing at a varsity level for a while. We also have a lot of underclassmen stepping up and taking a bigger role on the court for us which makes it tougher against older and more experienced teams,” senior captain Lily Kautai said.
Looking forward, the Knights will use their loss as a learning opportunity. “This will definitely be a learning experience of being able to watch film and evaluate some areas of improvement that we can work on in practice to help us in the coming weeks,” Kautai said.
With the loss dropping the Knights record to 5-4, they look to improve with a win against Valley Christian High School at home on Wednesday, Sept. 18.
