Menlo’s varsity flag football team defeated Los Altos High School 28-6 on Wednesday, September 3, to kick off its season.
Junior quarterback Ava Allen led the way with three touchdown passes. Senior Sophie Housser hauled in two touchdown receptions, and sophomores Becca Clack and Kaelee Wang each added touchdowns of their own.
Menlo’s defense played a critical role in the game’s outcome, preventing Los Altos from finding any offensive rhythm. Sophomore Lisi Mahe and senior Maren Mulloy each tallied an interception in the win.
Head coach Noah Lubarsky is looking forward to the rest of the season. “We’re as good as [our] ability to execute,” he said. “There were times today when our offense and defense executed really well and they played great, so if the girls can do that on a consistent basis, the results will take care of themselves.”
The Knights continued their momentum into their non-league home game against Milpitas High School, which they won 33-6 on Monday, Sept. 8.
The Knights will next battle at home against Atwater High School on Sept. 15.
