Menlo’s varsity girls tennis team defeated Sacred Heart Prep 6-1 at home on Thursday, Sept. 25. A sweep in all of the doubles matches supported this win, each decided in straight sets, along with two close singles matches that went to third-set tiebreaks. The first of two scheduled rivalry matches, energy was high between the two opposing sides. In the weekend prior, Menlo returned from San Diego, capturing a victory at the Point Loma Invitational and becoming the first Northern California program in the tournament’s history to win the title. The team’s performance in both local and national tournaments boasts a strong start to the season. “I think we’re doing much better than in years past, and it’s exciting to see,” junior Allison Zhou said. With this result, Menlo’s league record improves to 2-0 and its overall record to 12-2.
