HIGHBROW:

Celebrities:
New/ Expecting Celebrity Babies: This Spring, many of our favorite celebrities (and royals) are going to be new parents! Some like Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, are already happy parents to their daughter, James, born a couple weeks ago. Others like Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher and Prince William and Duchess Kate Middleton, are expecting. We can’t wait to see the beautiful children all these beautiful people created!

Fashion:
Flash Tattoos: Initially all the rage last summer, Flash Tattoos are back and bigger than ever. For those who don’t know, Flash Tattoos function just like your everyday temporary tattoo; however, they are metallic. As the days get warmer, girls are starting to purchase and apply these unique accessories more frequently in their anticipation of summer!

Lilly Pulitzer for Target: This March, it was announced that the brand Lilly Pulitzer is doing a partnership with Target to create a more affordable and accessible line. Coming out on April 19th, this collection will include everything from accessories to appeal to home goods. We love how many expensive designers like Missoni, Alexander McQueen, and now Lilly Pulitzer partner with Target to create affordable, yet still super fashionable clothes. We are sure the line is going to be a huge success!

Technology:
Magic: If we told you that there is now a new app on the market that can do pretty much anything you ask it to (at a cost of course), would you believe us?? Well this app does exist and it is called Magic. This app is basically your personal assistant. As a combination of AmazonFresh, DoorDash, Fluc, Siri, and Hipmunk (just to name a few), Magic can do and buy anything (legal) you want. Even though apps like Magic are influencing a lazy revolution, we love how technology has advanced to the point where one product can address so many needs.

Apple Watch: The Apple Watch was finally released this month. The perfect Apple esthetic was obviously achieved through the company’s newest innovation. While it is true that you probably don’t need another phone for your wrist, this watch is Apple’s take on consolidating all its products into one. This cool new gadget will keep us entertained while we anxiously wait for the release of the new iPhone in September!

Entertainment:
Friends on Netflix: Yes, yes, the show Friends aired from 1994-2004; however, the show is now on Netflix! If you’ve never watched Friends before, what’s wrong with you?! But seriously, check it out now on Netflix and make up for lost time. If you are like us and have already watched pretty much every episode, check it out now on Netflix and reminisce about the greatest show of all time.

Bieber Roast: While Justin Bieber’s recent behavior may be more Lowbrow than Highbrow, the Comedy Central Bieber Roast with Kevin Hart was definitely brilliant event. The panel of roasters included a variety of comedians, artists, and celebrities ranging from Snoop Dogg to Martha Stewart. Inappropriate at times, the roasters look turns grilling Bieber. We marked this event as Highbrow because of the reason why Bieber decided to do this roast. At the end of the show, he expressed how he has made a lot of mistakes recently and wants to clear his slate and start fresh. It was admirable to allow people to tear the bad image of him to sheds and hopefully make room for a new, more responsible, Bieber.

Memes:
Mel V Before/After Bikini Selfies: Everyone knows the classic before-after-bikini-mirror-selfie pic. The Mel V before and after bikini selfies are definitely not that. These before and after pictures are taken within 20 minutes of each other, yet they look dramatically different. In her first post she explained this concept. “What’s my point? Don’t be deceived by what you see in magazines & on Instagram…You never see the dozens of other pics they took that weren’t as flattering. Photoshop can make a pig look hotter than Beyonce,” Mel said. Since then, many Instagrammers have been posting their own versions. Check out this link to see the full story.

LOWBROW:

Celebrities:
One Direction Break Up: This past week we found out that the teenage heartthrob boy band, One Direction, broke up. Zayn’s departure was apparently do to stress revolving his personal life with his fiance. While the band claims that they are still together, just without Zayn, girls everywhere have been sent into a frenzy. While most of us don’t really care about any direction One Direction is going in, others are torn to pieces by this news:

Fashion:
Short Shorts: We’re trying to keep this as short as the shorts we’ve been seeing. As the days get warmer, the shorts get shorter. No we are not saying don’t wear short shorts, just know your limits – especially guys. No short shorts please…especially Jorts (jean shorts).

Cheetah Print: While cheetah print may be a cool pattern for home decor, it should not be worn as attire. Maybe a little accent here or there, but once it gets to a full on fur coat or leggings, it’s gotten too far. Unfortunately, it just looks tacky. No matter how anyone styles it, it just always gives off a bad vibe. Try and avoid these obnoxious prints this spring!

Technology:
Selfie Sticks: We’ve all seen them. We may have even used them! We have to admit, selfie sticks are useful when you feel too awkward to ask someone else to take a picture for you; however, they are just a small step up from the iPad selfie and/ or picture. Hate to break it to you, but it just looks kinda weird..

Entertainment:
Pretty Little Liars Finale:
After five seasons and countless fake “A” reveals of ABC Family’s “Pretty Little Liars”, the show finally revealed to its loyal fans who the person behind the mysterious “A” is. This reveal, however, was just as disappointing as “A” was revealed to be Jason’s twin brother, Charles. Fans have not been introduced to Charles (knowingly) once during the past seven years of the show. Rather than throwing a major plot twist into the show, ABC Family thought it would be a good idea make up a whole new character as a means of keeping the show running. It didn’t work.

Memes:
Waist Trainers: Waist Trainers have taken over the fitness world, or should I say wanna-be-fitness world. Celebrities like the Kardashians have flaunted their hourglass waists in numerous mirror selfies thanking waist trainers for their progress. We prefer the Mel V mirror selfies (mentioned above) and think that these waist trainers are just modern day corsets. Ew!

Check back next month for our next update!
